  • Mulloon Creek Natural Farms

Mulloon Creek Natural Farms is a regenerative farm spread across two properties in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales.

Wholly owned by Mulloon Institute, Mulloon Creek Natural Farms is best known for producing pasture-raised, chemical-free eggs with hens that roam freely on regenerative pastures.

Both of our farms are managed using holistic management practices and utilising biodynamic methods. Mulloon Creek Natural Farms was owned by Tony Coote AM (Founder, Mulloon Institute) until his passing in 2018 when ownership and management passed to Mulloon Institute, enabling it to continue its work in regenerative land management.

The Home Farm

The Home Farm straddles the Great Dividing Range and spills into an adjoining valley.

It is home to the 2006 Natural Sequence Farming Pilot Project.

Duralla Farm

Duralla Farm is in more open country and covers 586 hectares (1450 acres). It is home to our pasture-raised, free-range egg and cattle operation, utilising our chemical-free production system on pastures that are farmed using biodynamic methods.

At Mulloon Creek Natural Farms, we’ve been giving our hens the best life we can since we began producing our pasture-raised, free-range eggs on our regenerative production system in 2004.

We keep less than 250 hens per hectare, far exceeding the organic standard of 1,500 hens per hectare, as well as the Australian Government’s free-range maximum of 10,000. Periodically, we also run cattle through each paddock to keep the grass down and add fertility to the soil. The hens love scratching around in the manure for tasty bugs, spreading it across the paddock as natural fertiliser as they go.

Our hens eat a diet of chemical-free grains, Calci Grit, and forage for bugs, grubs, worms and grasses in the paddock. Their diet is also sustainably supplemented with Black Soldier Fly Larvae – turning waste into protein! All food and water is placed outside the sheds so they have to go outside to eat.

After a day of roaming free in their paddocks our hens return to their mobile hen houses to roost – these sheds are never locked up.

Our hens are ISA Browns and are constantly under the watchful eye of their Maremma guardian dogs who are specially bonded to each flock.

Our eggs are accredited as ‘True Free Range’ with Humane Choice and our pastures are biodynamic.
