Why hold a food systems conference in Western Australia? Doesn’t Australia already grow enough to feed 80 million people?
While our agricultural sector is world-class in terms of output, the reality beneath the surface tells a different story. Producers remain undervalued, around 30% of households face food insecurity, and the natural capital our food depends on is continually declining.
According to The Economist’s Global Food Security Index, Australia scores zero on policy commitments to food security – well below the global average of 47.1%. That’s largely due to the absence of a national food security strategy or clear government accountability.
Bringing together voices from across the entire food sector is key to changing this. That’s why the upcoming Regenerative Food Systems Conference on September 17-18 will feature insights from leaders in the food system space like Nick Rose, Matthew Evans, Dan Kittredge, highlighting bold ideas, practical solutions, and real opportunities to drive change from paddock through to policy.
