Volunteer Tree Planting

Join Mulloon Institute in rehabilitating and rehydrating the Molonglo catchment at Captains Flat in the NSW Southern Tablelands and transform the landscape into a healthy vibrant ecosystem that captures flood sediments, cycles nutrients and provides valuable habitat for the nationally endangered Green and Golden Bell Frog.

This project is part of the Molonglo Catchment Rehydration Initiative (MCRI) that spans two properties on the upper Molonglo River floodplain. Targeted interventions, including instream structures and floodplain earthworks have been implemented to restore the natural function of the landscape.

Mulloon Institute is a leading research and education organisation helping to build resilient regional communities by supporting the long-term, sustainable growth of Australian agriculture.

Volunteer activities: Information session introducing the project; walk and talk looking at design and construction of instream and floodplain works; and planting native seedlings in the riparian zone.

What to bring: Water, snacks and lunch, hat, sunscreen, sturdy shoes, gloves, long plants and sleeves, and your favourite planting tools if you have them (some tools and gloves provided). Supervised kids welcome. No experience necessary.

Mulloon Staff: Jack Smart, Max Brunswick, Penny Cooper

Date: Sat-Sun 29-30 March 2025
