November finished with our AGM on Friday 29 November following a farm and Board meeting. Our AGM was held in the barn and was well attended. We were delighted to welcome our Patron, Major General Michael Jeffery, who spoke spiritedly of the need for us all to work within an agreed framework to ensure the future health of our soils, water and vegetation. Michael is an inspiration to me and TMI as he has shown outstanding leadership on behalf of the innovative and regenerative farmers that doing great work. His role as the National Soil Advocate has ensured our work is seen as crucially important for the future of our landscapes and for agriculture.

In reporting to the AGM and in our Annual Report 2019, I emphasised just how far we have come over the past year and how the momentum for change in how our landscapes are seen and the need for repair and rehydration, has increased remarkedly. So with The Mulloon Institute (TMI) and Mulloon Consulting Contracting & Certifying (MCCC)’s growth and considering that momentum, I announced that our General Manager of MCCC, Carolyn Hall, would be appointed CEO overseeing both TMI and MCCC’s activities. Carolyn has been a huge support to me since she joined us a couple of years ago and has a clear vision of where we will heading in the years ahead. Very exciting times ahead.

Our AGM also saw Jim Guilfoyle stand down from the Board of TMI. Jim’s involvement with MCNF and ultimately TMI and MCCC dates back to the early 1970s. What Jim doesn’t know about MCNF isn’t worth knowing! He was a great friend and confidante of Tony Coote and has been a wonderful contributor to TMI’s growth and activities since its formation in 2011. We will certainly miss Jim at our Board meetings but know he will always be available to impart wise counsel when needed.

Replacing Jim on the Board is friend, Braidwood farmer and long-time supporter Martin Royds. Martin has been a key adviser to TMI so with his strong regenerative agriculture background he was an obvious choice to take over from farmer Jim. In keeping with the theme of my November Neophyte update Martin could be referred to as a “Neophyte” to the Board but he is certainly no neophyte with respect to what we do!
