Chairman's Spring message

“Spring into Spring” is a well-worn catch phrase particularly from retailers wanting to excite their customers into a shopping spree. With NSW, Victoria and the ACT still in lockdown as I write, it is hard to feel too much excitement just now. Probably more like trepidation that the lockdown is going to continue or if your “glass is half full”, hopeful expectation that “freedom” is not far away. Let’s hope!

Rehydration in action

All 31 Sentek soil moisture probes are now installed across the Mulloon catchment to monitor soil moisture at various depths in the underlying aquifers, assess how plant available water in the soil interacts with groundwater, and how rehydration efforts are impacting the catchment.

The Mulloon Institute is currently seeking an Education Coordinator to work as part of a small close-knit team that works with a range of stakeholders including landholders, government, school groups, tertiary students and institutions and business on education for landscape rehydration and regenerative agriculture. The role will report directly to the CEO and include curriculum development, development and delivery of courses and resources for teaching and learning for landscape rehydration, liaison with external education providers, development of content for digital learning platforms, liaison with the TMI Science team and Science Advisory Committee.

Citizen Scientists to help in important national research projects

The Mulloon Institute is one of nine projects supported in the latest round of the Australian Government’s Citizen Science grant program, for its “Modelling Landscape Rehydration for Catchments, Communities and Curriculum” program. Almost $4 million has been allocated to projects that offer opportunities for the public to make a significant contribution to scientific discovery.
